Names and character properties come from Unicode Character Database 17.0.0. The tool does not predict font or app compatibility, visual rendering on another device, or a symbol’s cultural, personal, or tattoo meaning.

Identify by character, description, or code point

If you can copy the unknown character, paste it directly for the most reliable lookup. If you only have an image, first redraw it in a handwriting keyboard or describe its visible features—such as arrows, bars, loops, or dots—to narrow the search, then paste likely candidates here. Visual similarity alone is not proof because many scripts contain lookalikes.

A code point is the clearest way to confirm an exact Unicode character. Look for notation such as U+2192, an HTML entity, or an escape copied from source code, then compare that value with the result. For multi-character marks, inspect every listed code point: what looks like one symbol may actually combine a base character, modifier, variation selector, or zero-width joiner.

Data version and method

Names, categories, blocks, aliases, and decompositions come from pinned Unicode Character Database 17.0.0 files processed at build time. Code points, escapes, and normalization are calculated locally in your browser; pasted text is never sent for identification.

Can this identify every Unicode symbol?

It can inspect every pasted Unicode code point with the pinned Unicode 17.0.0 database. Assigned characters receive their official name and properties; unassigned code points are labeled honestly, and only LiteralKit’s published name-symbol styles receive a style match.

Why did my symbol show only a code point?

The code point may be unassigned in Unicode 17.0.0, or the pasted item may be a multi-character decoration without one official name. LiteralKit still shows its code points and escapes without guessing a meaning.

What does a name-style match mean?

It means the pasted character or complete decoration matches a symbol produced by LiteralKit’s Name into Symbols chart. It does not guarantee how another app, device, or font will display it.

Does this upload my pasted symbols?

No. Identification happens locally in your browser and the pasted text is not sent to a server.

Can I identify a symbol from a photo?

Why does one visible symbol have several code points?

Some displayed forms are sequences containing modifiers, variation selectors, combining marks, or joiners. Inspecting every code point avoids mistaking the combined appearance for one character.
